Staff Sergeant Catherine Binkley began her military career in 2012, as a member of the 36th Infantry Division Band of the Texas Army National Guard. SSG Binkley graduated from Basic Combat Training in August of 2013, and graduated from The Army School of Music in August of 2014, placing at the top of her class on the Commandant’s List. SSG Binkley’s completed Army schools include Basic Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, and the Unit Prevention Leaders Course.
As a member of the 36th Infantry Division Band, SSG Binkley is a 9G Flute player with a Charlie-1 identifier. She has served as the Flute Section Leader, assistant Drum Major for the ceremonial bands, enlisted conductor for the concert bands, and assists often with the Woodwind MPT, The Lone Star Winds. SSG Binkley has experience leading the music library critical function area as NCOIC, and currently leads the Public Affairs and Production critical function area as an NCOIC. SSG Binkley performs regularly with the woodwind MPT, The Lone Star Winds, and serves as the principal flute in The Lone Star Band Concert Band. She has been activated twice with the 36th ID Band to help serve the state of Texas during Hurricane Harvey relief in 2017, and again in 2020 for Civil Disturbance missions with Task Force Alamo in San Antonio, Texas.
SSG Binkley earned her Bachelor degree in Music Education from The University of Texas Arlington in 2016, and her Master’s Degree in Music Education from Southern Methodist University in 2022. Catherine holds professional affiliations with both the Texas Music Educators Association, and the Texas Bandmasters Association. SSG Binkley is in her 7th year of teaching as the Director of Bands at Richland Middle School, where she conducts the Wind Ensemble, leads woodwind beginner classes, and assists with Symphonic Band.
