The 4th Platoon Sergeant of the 36th Infantry Division Band is Sergeant First Class Gary Brock of Spring, Texas. SFC Brock has served as the section leader of the Trombone, Euphonium, and Tuba sections at various times during his 20-year tenure with the 36th ID Band. He has held the position of Enlisted Conductor with the 36th ID Band since 2005.
SFC Brock began his military service in 1987 as a Refueler Vehicle Mechanic at Ellington Field in Houston, Texas as a member of the Texas Air National Guard’s 147th Fighter Wing. He was deployed to Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1991, serving at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico. SFC Brock ended his initial military service with the Texas Air National Guard in 1995 prior to re-entering military service in 2002 as a Euphonium player with the Texas Army National Guard’s 49th Armored Division Band. His military education includes Special Vehicle Mechanics Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Infantry Transition Course, Advanced Leadership Course, and Senior Leadership Course. Gary is aretired Texas Public school teacher, serving the communities of Highlands, League City, and Aldine Texas for 26 years. Since retiring, he has earned his Class A CDL and works for Statewide Transport in Houston. SFC Brock is currently serving at Operation Lone Star as Platoon Sergeant of Task Force West, Golf Company, 2nd Platoon. SFC Brock has a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree from Sam Houston State University, where he met his wife, Allison. They have two children, Ethan, and Aislynn.
