SPC James Quintero

Specialist James Daniel Quintero began serving in Texas’ Army National Guard in 2021. Currently, he performs as a trombonist for the 36 th Infantry Division Band based in Austin, TX. What drove SPC Quintero to enlist was the honor to serve and the privilege of utilizing music to do so. In his youth, the words “Every man owes it to himself to serve,” remained with SPC Quintero. These were the words of his late high school band director, Carlos Rosales Jr., who was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

SPC Quintero earned a bachelor of music in education from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2011 and a master of music in performance from Texas State University in 2014. He had the privilege to perform under the direction of Dr. Robert Rustowicz, trombone instructors Ron Wilkins, Dr. Martin McCain, and many other mentors and colleagues in his music career. SPC Quintero is in his tenth year as a Texas music educator of high school and middle school bands. Currently, he is assistant band director at Devine High School in Devine, TX.

SPC Quintero is active in his faith serving as both elder and music coordinator of Yancey Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Yancey, TX. He loves spending time with his wife Hannah and son Samson gardening, exercising, cooking, or visiting different areas. Other hobbies include making electronic music tracks, arranging fun music for his students, and learning about the benefits of nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.
